  The winery: fiori all'occhiello
On Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Monfalletto winery, the Cordero di Montezemolo family, together with the Imperia Chamber of Commerce Special Enterprise division and the Sanremo Flower Market (UCFLOR), organized “Fiori all’Occhiello”. This lively cultural event presented several particularly prized vintages of Barolo and the best flowers grown in Sanremo. The focus of the event was the fragrance and color that connect flowers and wine.

Six florists from Sanremo Italian Style, a school for florists that counts among its ranks some of the most noted Italian florists and aims to share the excellence and quality of Riviera products with the world, created – live onstage – floral arrangements inspired by the sensory perceptions that each florist had when tasting Cordero di Montezemolo’s six different vintages. Six of these bouquets, one for each florist, were then paired with the corresponding wine and offered up in auction to the highest bidder. In addition, many other elegant arrangements were created to complement some of the interiors (eg., the winery where guided tours take place) and structures of the property.

The six florists were: Rita Tua (Sanremo), Antonio Trentini (Trento), Rosaria Nodale (Udine), Rita Milani (Marnate, Varese province), Giuseppe Lagonigro (Brescia), and Adriano Caprioli (Gallarate, Varese province).

Fiori all’Occhiello also offered the opportunity to take a guided tour of the winery and participate in tastings of Cordero di Montezemolo wines and traditional food products of the area (cured meats and cheeses). A Ferrari rally was also held around the event to further highlight Italian style and taste in their highest expressions.

All the flowers and branches used to decorate the winery and for the onstage arrangement were from Sanremo. Participants paid an entry fee, and proceeds benefited International Help, a Turin-based organization founded in 1995 to protect children’s health and to improve their lives in the more impoverished areas of the planet.
